Lead auditors are qualified based on experience in the food industry, education, training and auditing experience. A persons path to becoming a Lead Auditor will vary depending on these factors.
The first step is to have experience in the food industry in a role with food safety responsibilities. That experience, combined with a registered Lead Auditor Course (RABQSA or IRCA 40 hour course) will get you started on your lead auditor qualifications. You will also need a certain amount of auditing experience. The links below take you to documents that explain this in more detail.
We do not offer the lead auditor course, but many of the certification bodies offer this training. Talking to a certification body about what requirements they have for their auditors will also help you identify your approach to becoming a lead auditor.
