ISO 22000 Food safety team leader

Top management must appoint a Food Safety Team Leader, with the responsibility for the development and implementation of the Food Safety Management System.

Food Safety Team Leader
This person must be knowledgeable in food safety and ready to lead the Food Safety Team. They will be responsible for the make-up of the team, and ensuring that the team has the required expertise.

In addition to leading the Food Safety Team the team leader is responsible for:

  • Ensuring the qualifications of the team members
  • The development and implementation of the Food Safety Management System
  • Reporting on the status of the system to management
  • Ensuring the necessary updating of the Food Safety Management System
  • In most cases, this person will be the contact for the Registration Body that certifies the organization

Note: Because FSSC 22000 is ISO 22000 with the addition of requirements for prerequisite programs, (PAS 220) the requirements are the same for the Food Safety Team Leader.
