Growing in popularity worldwide, this system is often chosen by manufacturers because of its alignment with the ISO 9000, 14000 and 18000 management systems. Organizations planning to implement an integrated management system addressing quality, environmental or health and safety in addition to the food safety management find that the FSSC 22000 fits nicely with the other ISO Standards to build an efficient, integrated management system.

The FSSC 22000 Certification scheme requirements are found in ISO 22000, the PAS 220 and several requirements identified in the FSSC 22000 document "Part I Requirements for organizations that require certification". To prepare for certification, you must meet the requirements in all three of these documents.

Organizations also choose this system, which uses the ISO 22000 standard as a foundation, because of the proven success of the ISO Management Systems. The management systems requirements are familiar to and recognized by customers worldwide, and have proven their effectiveness over decades of use in a variety of industries.

In addition to the ISO 22000 standard, FSSC 22000 includes specific requirements for prerequisite programs. These requirements may be found in the PAS 220 or in ISO/TS 22002-1. The two documents are equivalent, PAS 220 is published by BSI and the ISO/TS 22002-1 is published by ISO.
