ISO Food Safety
The International Organization of Standardization, ISO, has developed Management Systems Standards that are in use by hundreds of thousands of companies worldwide. The most widely recognized and used may be the ISO 9001 Quality Management System, but others have been developed for heath and safety, environmental, and now Food Safety Management. The ISO Food Safety Standard is ISO 22000. The current version is ISO 22000:2005.
ISO Food Safety
The ISO Food Safety Standard, ISO 22000 is already in use by thousands of companies. The popularity is increasing as multinational food manufacturers and retailers request that their suppliers become registered. Companies are also registering to protect their companies and brands from the damage that a food safety problem can cause.
To register to ISO 22000, an organization must implement, document and maintain a food safety management system that meets the ISO 22000 requirements. Most companies start their project by getting a good understanding of the ISO 22000 Requirements. See What is ISO 22000?
Once you have a good understanding of the requirements, measure your current system against the requirements to obtain an idea of what must be done to bring it into conformance with the ISO Food Safety Standard. This is called a "Gap Analysis". Read our tips on how to perform your Gap Analysis or try the free Gap Analysis Tutorial.
